Children (6 - 11)Initial Comprehensive Evaluation
Dr. Reid's approach to the assessment of children is very thoughtful, thorough and comprehensive. She understands that when children are faced with life stressors or emotional problems, they may react in ways that cause significant distress in their lives. Some children may show frustration, irritability, regression, withdrawal or school difficulties. Evaluations are usually conducted over two sessions. Dr. Reid usually meets with parents alone for the initial session. Information on past histories including developmental, psychiatric, educational, social and medical will be obtained and any available evaluations such as psychological testing will be reviewed. After the evaluation sessions, Dr. Reid will provide her assessment and engage the family in establishing a treatment plan specific to their needs. Dr. Reid will collaborate with other providers including referring physicians, therapists, teachers and school counselors to provide the highest quality of continuous care. Medication Management (25 minutes) If indicated, Dr. Reid may recommend medications. Medications can be very helpful in some cases.Prior to starting any medications, indications, benefits and potential side effects will be discussed with the child and family. If medications are initiated, follow up appointments will be required to closely monitor efficacy and side effects. The frequency of follow up appointments depend upon various factors and can range between every 1 to 3 months. |
